Happy Holidays!

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

snowflake.jpg

So much is happening here at Tiromed that some of us (ahem) forgot the approaching holidays. You can glimpse some of the excitement by taking a look in the members’ area. Since we went international earlier this week, over 18 countries have joined! We have been getting great feedback from our new members and look forward to more ideas from you.

We will be focusing on some major initiatives in 2007 thanks to your suggestions. In fact, first thing in January we will be working on implementing these new concepts so keep your eyes peeled.

Everyone at Tiromed would like to wish you a happy holiday break. We encourage you to indulge in good ‘ol family fun, relaxation and a warm pitcher of egg nog :)

Happy Holidays!

-Team Tiromed

Tiromed International!

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

globe.jpg

One of the most exciting and unexpected things we stumbled upon during our initial launch was the possibility of taking Tiromed international. Imagine visiting Tiromed and becoming colleagues with a student in Taipei, or planning an international trip and connecting with the local med students during your visit.

So in a bold move of enthusiasm we agreed to go for the “world medical school database.” What does this mean? We are currently working to create a structured database for all countries around the globe and their medical schools. Soon all the medical students around the world will be able to list their medical schools and network with each other on Tiromed! It’s a audacious undertaking but that’s the kind of stuff we thrive on here ;-)

You can see some of this development in the member search. Go and take a look, you can now see fellow students from other countries. With time, and a little member advocacy, we will have a truly international site where you can connect and share thoughts with anyone around the globe!

IFMSA-USA 2007 National Convention

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Hey Everybody,

IFMSA-USA is hosting their 2007 National Convention at JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY, BALTIMORE, MD January 13-14, 2007. Check here for the details.

Remember that the ending of the early-bird registration is coming up quickly on Dec 15th so hurry up and register!
Also you should know that IFMSA-USA is selecting one random conference attendee to join the international meeting in March, and are paying for the lucky winner’s registration. This means that you could go to Australia for the international conference!

Sidney Callahan is the president of IFMSA-USA and will be doing a Tiromed interview pretty soon. Keep your eyes peeled. Of course, you can also go and meet Sidney at the national convention in January!

Here is a cool video on the international meeting to get you pumped for the national convention!

MemberSpotlight: “Greetings Fellow Tiromeds!”

Friday, December 8th, 2006

My name is Jon Elliott and am a pre-med student at the University of Oregon. This will be my senior year, but plan on joining the titular club of “super seniors” after next year. Medicine has not always been a life long ambition of mine, instead my dream was to become an architect. Fortunately, I realized my true calling after only one year in the architecture department. Currently, I am on track to graduate with a degree in human physiology and minors in biochemistry and biology. My MCAT preparation is in high gear right now, and plan to take the exam sometime in april. As of now I am drawn to the osteopathic philosophy, but will undoubtably apply to allopathic schools as well. Between school and work I stay fairly busy, but always make time for exercise and my social life. It is my personal belief that physical fitness is a prerequisite for a clear and rational mind, something often overlooked.
